Vitamins and Mineral Supplements Can Be Dangerous

There are many examples of this (from vitamin A to calcium to protein) but for this example, let's take iron. Iron is the number one killer of children under six in many poison centers. This iron is usually found in the kitchen cupboard in the form of a kiddie multi-vitamin. Too much iron taken in this form of multi-vitamins can create a poisonous situation that is so dangerous children die before it can be eliminated from their system. Too much iron can also be dangerous for adults. Even when an adult reaches for an over-the-counter iron supplement, it can be a big problem because excess iron releases free radicals into the system, can cause constipation and create toxicity. When you eat food-iron, it is in minute amounts and in proper balance with other nutrients. When you become your own chemist, you can overdose!
